Disney Research working on over-the-air wireless charging

Disney Research is working on technology that may someday allow you to charge your phone or other device simply by walking into a specially equipped room.

As Phys.org points out, researchers at Disney built a 16 by 16 room with aluminium panels floor to ceiling and two-inch copper pipe runs vertically that is able to transmit power that can charge compatible receivers.

“This new innovative method will make it possible for electrical power to become as ubiquitous as WiFi,” Alanson Sample, associate lab director & principal research scientist at Disney Research, told Phys.org. “This in turn could enable new applications for robots and other small mobile devices by eliminating the need to replace batteries and wires for charging,” he added.
