Apple says its using ‘differential privacy’ to glean user info without jeopardizing privacy

The term “differential privacy” seems like an oxymoron but its advocates say it’s a way to glean information about device users without jeopardizing the user’s personal information.

The technique, according to CNET News involves could be used to improve the way Apple recognizes words as you type  ‘Apple will collect information from your device about what you’re typing,”
, “but it will inject noise while it’s being transmitted to Apple’s computer systems, so it doesn’t know the exact words you used. When the information gets to Apple, it’ll be mixed in with millions of other responses.’
